What to know about Goa
Goa divides cleanly. The north — Anjuna, Vagator, Assagao — is where the markets, the restored townhouses and the crowds are. The south — Agonda, Palolem, Patnem — is slower, with wider beaches and earlier nights.
Inland Goa is underrated: the churches at Old Goa, the Latin Quarter in Panjim, and the spice plantations along the Mandovi. A well-built week gives roughly equal time to coast and hinterland.
When to go. November to February for dry, mild weather. March and April are hot but quiet. Beach shacks are dismantled for the monsoon and return around October.
