Overview

The classic Kerala arc, paced so that no day is a transfer day disguised as sightseeing. Two nights in Fort Kochi, two in the tea country above Munnar, one on a houseboat and a final night by the sea at Marari.

Munnar is walked, not just driven through: a half-day estate walk with a plantation guide, and an early entry into Eravikulam before the queues. The Alleppey night is on a two-bedroom kettuvallam with a cook aboard, moored away from the main canal traffic after dark.

Suited to couples and to families with children over eight. Very little of the trip is strenuous; the longest walk is about four kilometres on gentle gradient.

Runs in: September, October, November, December, January, February, March. Outside that window we do not sell the trip rather than run it badly.

  1. 1Arrive Kochi — Fort Kochi and MattancherryDay 1
    Arrive at Cochin International and transfer to a heritage guesthouse in Fort Kochi. Afternoon walk past the Chinese fishing nets, St Francis Church and the spice godowns of Mattancherry. Evening Kathakali performance, optional.
  2. 2Kochi to MunnarDay 2
    Drive inland through rubber and cardamom, climbing past Valara and Cheeyappara falls. Roughly four hours. Afternoon at leisure at the estate stay above Munnar town.
  3. 3Eravikulam and a tea estate walkDay 3
    Early entry to Eravikulam National Park for the Nilgiri tahr and the shola grassland. Back for lunch, then a guided walk through a working estate — plucking, withering, rolling — ending at the tea museum.
  4. 4Munnar to Alleppey — board the houseboatDay 4
    Descend to the coastal plain and board a two-bedroom kettuvallam at Alleppey by mid-afternoon. Cruise the Punnamada and the narrow canals, with a village stop, and moor for the night. Dinner cooked aboard.
  5. 5Alleppey to MarariDay 5
    Disembark after breakfast and transfer thirty minutes to Mararikulam. Afternoon free on the beach; optional Ayurvedic massage at the property.
  6. 6Depart KochiDay 6
    Slow morning by the sea, then a ninety-minute transfer to Cochin International. Trip ends.

How hard is this trip, and who is it for?

How many people will be on it?

September, October, November, December, January, February and March, and the next date open for booking is 8 Nov 2026. Outside that window we do not sell the trip rather than run it badly — passes under snow, a monsoon crossing or a shut ferry are reasons to move your dates, not to take your money.
Can I hold seats before I pay?
Yes. Pick a date, enter who is travelling, and the seats come off the live count for 15 minutes while you decide. Nothing is charged during the hold, and if you walk away it releases itself and the seats go back on sale.
How do I pay, and what happens after?
Online at the end of the booking flow, or over the phone with the trips desk during working hours if you would rather not pay on the web. Either way you get a booking reference, and the joining pack for your departure follows from the desk.
What if I have to cancel?
There is no blanket policy printed here, because permits, mountain lodges and internal flights are paid forward at different points on different departures — and quoting a single number would be a promise we could not keep on every date. The terms that apply to your departure are in your joining pack, and the desk will put them in writing before you pay if you ask.

  • Six days, five places, and it never once felt like a transfer day pretending to be sightseeing. Eravikulam at opening was quiet and we saw tahr within twenty minutes. Marari at the end instead of a rushed airport morning was a good call.

  • The estate walk with a plantation guide was the thing I didn't know I wanted. Everyone else was at the viewpoints taking the same photograph; we were walking a working slope learning how the leaf actually gets processed. The houseboat night lived up to it too.
